Mush Mug with Slug/Snail Bud

$38.00
sold out

This ceramic mug is delightful to view and to handle, with the mushrooms carved in relief and an intriguing bubbling texture on the inlaid ceramic slip. A small mug, but with a friendly little slug or snail certain to keep you company as you drink your coffee, cider, tea, or other warm drink. This is both dishwasher (top rack) and microwave safe, though handwashing is recommended for longevity.

Made from white midfire stoneware, these pieces were thrown, hand carved, and ceramic slip was inlaid into the lines before being scraped away. A handle was added, and the bottom of the piece was dry-brushed with slip. A hand-sculpted mollusk was attached to the top. They were fired, glazed with a transparent, food safe glaze, and then fired for a second time.

The ceramics in this set are inspired by mushrooms, and the forests they inhabit. While the main focus of the set was on sculpture, this collection also explored a more minimal application of colored slips, while experimenting with brushstrokes and texture.
